Led by Larrakia leaders, the Darwin community stood up to Save Lee Point/Binybara. Until Lee Point is saved, we're not going anywhere.

In Darwin/Garramilla, Northern Territory Defence Housing Australia and the Albanese government have ignored hundreds of Lee Point Defender's peaceful protests, 34 arrests, solidarity actions across the country aswell as tens of thousands of people including Bob Brown echoing the community's demands to follow the instructions of Larrakia Leaders and save Lee Point.

Instead, on 30 April and 1 May 2024, Defence Housing Australia rushed to bulldoze the second and third stages of the Lee Point Development.

This ‘government sanctioned extinction’ by Defence Housing Australia shocked the country. The senseless destruction of ancient landscapes prompted criticism from the internationally renowned Dr Jane Goodall, who denounced the actions of the Commonwealth statutory body.

Since 7 May 2024, Defence Housing Australia have agreed to pause the development while they investigate allegations of unlawful clearing.

On 30 July 2024, ABC’s 7.30 revealed that Defence Housing Australia allegedly breached Territory and Federal Law by bulldozing Lee Point.

In May 2025, Defence Housing Australia were fined less than $20 000 for illegal land clearing. Now in June 2024, thanks to the ongoing fight of Danggalaba Kulumbirigin leader Tibby Quall, a Tribunal has ordered DHA to halt works to protect an area of great cultural and ecological significance.

The community is now calling for Minister Watt to revoke Defence Housing Australia’s EPBC Approvals.
